Juniors Padres
capture CA District 44 TOC Crown

The Sunnyvale Little League Juniors Padres completed a
perfect run in the California District 44 Tournament of Champions with a
thrilling 8-7 victory over the Los Altos Little League Yankees at Purissima
Park on Thursday, June 12th.
The TOC finale actually started on
Wednesday at McKelvey Park in Mountain View, but the tie game carried past the
City of Mountain View curfew at the venue. The Padres were forced to comeback
from an early 3-0 deficit, tying the game in the bottom of the 7th inning to
get the game to extra innings.
The Yankees grabbed a 7-5 lead in the
top of the 10th, but the Padres had runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs. That's
when the lights went out. With starting pitcher Connor Donohue attempting to
steal 2nd base, the field went dark forcing the game to be continued on
Thursday night.
The game resumed at Purissima Park in Los Altos on
Thursday afternoon. The Padres would tie the game in the bottom of the 10th to
extend the game. That setup Jomo Albrecht's game wining RBI single in the
bottom of the 12th inning to secure the tournament victory.
Sunnyvale
had five pitchers throw in the game, including Isaiah Cho who pitched the final
2 and 2 thirds innings to earn the victory.
The Padres won all four
games they played in the double elimination tournament, including an 11-4
victory over the Yankees in the opening round. They then beat the Briarwood LL
Marlins 6-2 and SC Westside LL 8-0.
